The mission of State Surplus is to be the medium through which transfer or sale of all surplus property among state agencies, universities and other state institutions is administered. This is done by sealed bid, negotiated sale or public auction.

The State Surplus Property Program receives excess property from state agencies and sells it to eligible recipients. Property not disposed of in this manner is sold to the general public. Surplus vehicles are stored at the surplus car lot at 4200 Surface Road in Columbus. Other surplus property is accumulated at the surplus warehouse at 4200 Surface Road in Columbus. Some property is disposed of on-site.

The University Surplus and Salvage department receives and sells surplus University of Utah property. Most property is displayed and available for inspection in building 627. Property is offered to Federal agencies, State agencies, University Departments, Public Education institutions first, and then to the general public.
